Coding it Forward (CIF) is a nonprofit for early-career technologists creating new pathways into public interest technology. In 2023, CIF unified our two summer fellowship programs under one brand—the Coding it Forward Fellowship, which places early-career technologists in federal, state, and local offices for 10 weeks.
Professional development is one of the hallmarks of the Coding it Forward Fellowship, in addition to high-impact work and a cohort-based community. Our team facilitates professional development through virtual programming and one-on-one mentorship with mentors in the public interest technology community.
This summer, close to 80 Fellows will join our cohort in cybersecurity, data, design, product, and software engineering roles across the country. They are also a diverse group seeking mentorship across various subjects—looking for their first full-time job, applying to grad school, specializing in a field, learning to cut through red tape, and much more. That’s where you come in!
CIF provides Fellows with access to one-on-one mentorship with the help of volunteer mentors. We’re looking for professionals interested in mentoring early-career talent interested in technology careers for the public interest. You can be a software engineer, designer, operations manager, data scientist, policy analyst, or anything else—as long as you have experience in public interest technology, civic or government technology, or adjacent fields, we’d love to have you on board.
